Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #11

Time to put another oiltank on the '72 Ironhead. The old one was not broken but I bought a nice survivor Chrome tank with a nice Chrome cap so I will put that one on this H-D. Painted the back to prevent from rust and the 72 logo will be placed later on. Cleaned everything behind the tank so its time to place it back next week, new 20W50 oil and intern oilfilter. In the meanwhile the sissybar broke so thats another project....

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #10

New braided brakeline for the '72 Ironhead. Its about time this bike has a frontbrake, been real close to some accidents cause in Holland you can't ride safe without a frontbrake. Buell X1 brakelever for 7/8 bars, braided brakeline with straight and 80 degree couplings, '86 sportster caliper.

Stolen Pictures

I don't like to steal pictures but on the other hand: Did they ask to take a picture of me??

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #9

Bought a Buell X1 Front Brake Master Cylinder on ebay, brand new. I will use it on the Universal Motocross bars (7/8") so I don't have to work with adaptors anymore from 1" to 7/8". Buell is using 7/8" bars so this was the best choice after I figured it out. (I only have my Buell X1 for 11 years.....)
Made the lever silver to match the black&silver Universal MX Clutchlever. Now I need to order a
braided brakeline in the good size and finally after a couple of years the '72 Ironhead will have a front brake again. It even has a brake light switch so I can make it "legal" too.

Spencer McCabe's Bell 500 Helmet at Hoodlum Society

At Texas Toast we had an auction for the ARF (Athlete Recovery Fund) at the Bell Helmets party so of course I was bidding like hell and won this very nice Bell Helmet (my size M) done by Spencer McCabe. It fits the 1972 golden Ironhead very well and last but not least Aaron Cook of the ARF has some extra money to spend for a good cause.

Horn on a Flattracker sounds stupid, and it is. But sometimes its very handy so I was thinking for months how to make it happen and now it is ready. The horn is behind the numberplate and the pushbutton is between the tank, mounted on the toptube. It works, looks clean, nobody know what it is and they all got scared when they push it hahaha. Made of a piece of S&M Slambars and a piece of BMX Forks so total price was Euro 4,50 for the button. Did a testride today: I feel more stupid...yes the front wheel balancing worked so well, no more shaking even when going 85 mls/hour.Problems solved. Did 500 km's so BaMo Tech put some new oil/oilfilter on the machine and its ready to go....well after Winter.

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #7

I feel so stupid: The Flattracker was shaking like hell, when going faster than 60 mls/hour the frontend was vibrating and it was hard to hold the handlebars straight. I went to BaMo Tech and found out it was the 110gr Tireblock that caused the problem....I used a rear KTM MX rim in the front so I also used the Tireblock. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid but now everything is fixed and well balanced by BaMo Tech. (report on BaMo Tech soon).

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #6

Workshop Wednesday was a good one last week, we visited Austin Speed Shop in Austin Texas. Formerly owned by Jesse James but he sold his share again and its time again to build some nice cars. They started in 1949 so they can survive without mister J. Lots of projects going on, some were waiting in the yard and about 10 cars in the shop. It takes a lot of skills build a car so projects are not finished in a couple of weeks. It was nice to see the Austin Speed Shop, nice people and good stuff.

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #5

Air breather is working but the ugly yellow filter had to go. Found hundreds on Ebay in Singapore/Honduras/China etc, all for a couple of dollars but then I found out they had two dealers only 3 miles from the workshop and bought this red one. Not really what I wanted but better than yellow. Then Pieter from Twin Air filters showed up and will hook me up with a custom made air breather with GP housing in orange, and also some new filter stuff for the airfilter. Its good to have patient and friends.

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #4

Planning is everything, have been thinking for months where to put the horn and light switch on the Flattracker and finally found the right spots. Horn behind the number plate and the light switch behind the ignition coil holder. Worked on the wiring but no time to finish it today. Next week I will be in Austin Texas for Texas Toast so have plenty of things to do right now. I will bring a BILTWELL GRINGO FULL FACE Helmet home to check everything out before placing an order for a massive GRINGO order in November. Let me know if you need a DOT Gringo Full face for Christmas. UPDATE: Light switch is working, Horn is working but looking for a way to hide the switch.

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #3

We got a nice Oilfilter house from Lowbrow in the mail last week. The '67 Ironhead doesn't even have an oilfilter so its time to fix one and keep that oil clean. The Lowbrow kit is awesome, I ordered an S&S filter with the kit and will work on a bracket to fit on the bike. I think it will look cool with the ribbed primary cover so that will be the place where it will be. First some thinking before messing everything up. The heads needs to be repaired and might need to do the cylinders too so it won't be a fast project. Check the stuff on the Lowbrow site, they have some neat stuff for you in Ohio.

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #2

Lowbrow mirror monted on the '67 Ironhead. I always had my mirrors underneath the handlebars but this time I tried to put it in a position you can actually can see something in them. Handlebars are ridiculus small so I put it on the outside and I must say: it works!

Workshop Wednesday E13-14 #1

First WW was a good one, I had this ugly clear hose as a breather running around the Mikuni carb and wanted to change that. Bought this Breather kit for the Buell X1 but didn't use it after all so I mounted the kit on the Hoodlum Society C-bike. I like the racing look but the filter is going to change color to Orange, silver or black. No testride yet but it won't be a problem I guess...
